This is an effective continuity offense based setting back screens and hard cuts to the basket. It is difficult to defend because of the weakside UCLA or high post rub cut that most teams do not use on offense. If the guards can move the ball quickly around the perimeter, the defense will get caught by the backscreen and oftentimes it is the defenders teammate that blocks the defender guarding the cutter. In addition, the spacing allows for easy backdoor cuts on the wings if they are denied or overplayed. A key to this offense is making a good guard to guard pass because of the danger of a turnover in that area which will lead to a score. This play is a derivative of Pete Carrill’s Reverse Action Offense and is very effective as a delay offense as well.

The classic big man drill named after the great George Mikan. Players should keep the ball high throughout the entire movement, building a rhythm with a single step to either side, perfecting light touch off the backboard. Left hand right hand left hand right hand.

Player should always be facing forward. Stay low throughout the exercise, sprinting forward, shuffling right and left, and backpedaling.

The basic motion offense should be a staple in your teams arsenal no matter what defense they’re playing against. Pass, screen away, look into the post, and swing the ball around the court. Find the open man. Simple. Classic. Effective.
